JUST IN: DSS Clears President Tinubu's Ministerial List
The Department of State Services (DSS) has concluded its screening of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's ministerial list, which was submitted to the agency approximately two weeks ago. The list of ministerial nominees underwent final security checks by both the DSS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before being forwarded to the Senate for screening.
Barring any unforeseen changes, President Tinubu is expected to send the finalized list of his cabinet to the National Assembly tomorrow. The Clark of the Senate and the Principal Officers have already been informed of this development through a letter from the Presidency.
According to the law, the President is required to submit the list of ministerial nominees to the National Assembly within 60 days of taking the oath of office. President Tinubu's administration was inaugurated on May 29, when he assumed leadership from former President Muhammadu Buhari. With approximately 10 days remaining until the constitutional deadline, the President must promptly form his cabinet.
Sources within the Presidency have indicated that the ministerial list has been prepared for some time but required adjustments were made along the way. A confidential source stated, "The list of ministerial nominees has been ready for a while, but the President has made some changes in certain states." The source further added that the list is expected to be sent to the National Assembly between Wednesday and Thursday, unless any unforeseen developments arise that could further delay the submission. The President must constitute his cabinet no later than July 26.
It is worth noting that various purported ministerial lists have been circulating, leaving Nigerians guessing about who will be included and whether there will be a government of national unity, as speculated in some quarters. Mr. Dele Alake, the presidential spokesman, recently stated that only President Tinubu can decide when to submit the list of nominees to the National Assembly and who will be included. Alake assured the public that the list will be made public before the 60-day deadline expires.
As the nation eagerly awaits the unveiling of President Tinubu's ministerial list, political observers and the general public remain curious about the individuals who will make up the cabinet and the direction the new administration will take.
