Enugu Commissioner, Hon. Mrs Ngozi Enih, Decries Domestic Brutality on Pregnant Woman by Spouse, Says Culprit will Face the full Wrath of the Law
The Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, has strongly condemned the domestic violence inflicted upon a pregnant woman, Mrs. Patience Nwachukwu (Née Edeh), by her spouse, Mr. Evidence Ugochukwu Nwachukwu. The incident unfolded tragically as Mrs. Nwachukwu lost her five-month-old pregnancy due to the brutal assault.
Commissioner Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih wasted no time in taking action to ensure justice prevails in this distressing case. She stated emphatically that "the ministry will make sure that the law takes its full course" in response to this reprehensible act. Thanks to the prompt intervention by the ministry, Mrs. Nwachukwu's life was saved, though her pregnancy was tragically lost.
Accompanied by Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET), led by Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke JP, Commissioner Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih visited the victim, Mrs. Nwachukwu, at ESUT Teaching Hospital, Park Lane, Enugu. The severity of the situation became evident as it was revealed that the assailant had physically attacked Mrs. Nwachukwu, leading to her fall from their room onto a block outside their residence.
Mrs. Nwachukwu, the brave survivor who reported the abuse to the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, is steadfast in her pursuit of justice while expressing gratitude for the ministry's swift intervention.
At the hospital, Commissioner Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, along with the Chief Medical Director of ESUT Teaching Hospital, Park Lane, Enugu, Professor Bethrand Ngwu, vehemently condemned the entire incident. They called on victims of domestic violence to speak out and urged partners to seek help in managing their anger issues.
Commissioner Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih described the situation as heart-wrenching and emphasized that nobody should ever have to endure such abuse. She reiterated the ministry's unwavering commitment to addressing cases of domestic abuse and encouraged individuals to report any form of domestic violence through the ministry's open phone lines.
In her final statement, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih assured the public that the perpetrator, Mr. Evidence Ugochukwu Nwachukwu, will face the full force of the law, serving as a stern warning to anyone contemplating such heinous acts in the future.
