Enugu State Gears Up for Dry Season Rice Farming with Federal Ministry Inspection

The recent inspection of rice fields in Enugu State by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security holds great significance as the state aims to become a thriving center for agricultural production and economic growth under the visionary leadership of Governor Peter Mbah.

This inspection encompassed extensive rice fields in the Nkanu East Local Government Council, including the previously mentioned Owo, Ubahu, and Amankanu rice fields. Furthermore, neighboring rice fields in Imeoha Community in Nkerefi were also examined, revealing an impressive 3,000 additional hectares of rice fields.

Enugu State's dedication to maximizing its agricultural potential is evident, with the Owo, Ubahu, and Amankanu rice fields alone covering approximately 2,000 hectares. This commitment underscores the state's crucial role in ensuring Nigeria's food security.

The inspection team, led by Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation in Enugu State, and accompanied by Mrs. Ihuoma Eze, the State Project Coordinator of the Agro Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Support (APPEALS) project, conducted this comprehensive evaluation in preparation for the upcoming dry season farming. This aligns with Governor Peter Mbah's vision to transform the state into a hub for cash crop exports and poverty alleviation.

During a media briefing, Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru highlighted the state's proactive approach, including the establishment of a land bank to facilitate land acquisition for agricultural purposes, with the goal of attracting both domestic and foreign investments. This strategic initiative is expected to drive industrialization and foster economic growth in the state.

With the collaborative efforts of the state government and federal support, Enugu State is well-positioned to make substantial progress in agricultural development and economic prosperity during the upcoming dry season. This inspection has laid the foundation for a promising future in rice farming, contributing significantly to Nigeria's overall food security
