Majority Leader ENHA, Hon. Jane Eneh, Hon. Obiajulu Ugwu, Others Receive The Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs Ngozi Enih ...as she pays a visit to Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Gender Matters


The Commissioner for Children Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon Mrs Ngozi Enih, paid a remarkable courtesy visit to the State House of Assembly Committee on Gender Matters. The visit, which took place on Thursday, October 19, 2023, aimed to foster collaboration and inclusivity in the implementation of programs and initiatives.

Accompanied by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Mrs Nkechi Ewoh, and the Director of the Gender Affairs Department, Mrs Esther Mba, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs Ngozi Enih, expressed her gratitude for the heartwarming reception her team got from the committee, while briefing the committee members on the "Nigeria for Women Project," stating that it is a significant initiative under the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, supported by the World Bank and approved by Governor Peter Mbah.


 "His Excellency, Barr Peter Mbah has paid N450,000,000 (Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) counterpart funds to that effect to empower women in both urban and rural areas. The funds will be distributed through cooperative societies" The Commissioner urged committee members to help disseminate information about the project to their constituents to ensure that all women have the opportunity to participate.


She also expressed Gov. Peter Mbah's desire to empower women with business ideas by reducing the registration fee for cooperatives from #45,000 to #20,000. She specifically commended the governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barr. Peter Mbah for his intervention. 


Hon. Enih assured the committee members that measures would be put in place to prevent duplication of persons and names through local government identification.


The Honorable Commissioner was warmly received by the committee members led by Hon. Mrs Eneh Jane Chinwe who commended the Commissioner's office for its invaluable services to the people of Enugu. 


Honorable Eneh went further to express her gratitude for the Commissioner's commitment to serving the public and her efforts in ensuring that the interests of Ndi Enugu are prioritized.


Another committee member, Hon Osita Eze, also expressed his appreciation for the Commissioner's visit, highlighting its significance in fostering a sense of belonging among the constituents. "this visit was seen as an acknowledgment of the importance of collaboration and unity in achieving common goals" he said.


During the visit, Hon Emeka Ngene took the opportunity to thank the Commissioner for her continuous support of the women in Enugu. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and praised the Commissioner for her commitment to serving the people. He pledged the committee's readiness to offer legislative assistance whenever required.

Hon Engr. Williams Anuka, while welcoming the Commissioner, stressed the need for gender-inclusive programs and activities, urging the Commissioner to consider the male population in her initiatives.

Other members of the House Committee on Gender Matter include, Hon Bright Emeka Ngene, Hon Engr Williams T. Anuka, Hon Eze Ejike Jude, Hon Ugwu Obiajulu Princess, Hon Ani Johnson Samuel. The collaborative efforts between the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development and the State House of Assembly Committee on Gender Matters promise to bring about positive change and empower women across the state.
