HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT: Enugu State Gov't Launches Fashion Skills Center for Job Creation
In a bid to fulfill his commitment to job creation and poverty eradication, His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, has announced the establishment of a Skills Acquisition Center dedicated to Fashion Design. The center, set to be commissioned soon, aims to empower the youth by providing training in various aspects of the fashion industry.
The Enugu State Ministry of Labour and Employment, under the leadership of Hon. Pharm Chika Ugwuoke, has spearheaded this initiative, named "Subsidized Fashion Skills Training." This program seeks to equip young individuals with essential skills required for a successful career in the burgeoning Nigerian fashion industry.
The comprehensive training program, spanning six to twelve months, covers diverse areas such as tailoring, embroidery, stitching, fashion making, and startup skills. What sets this initiative apart is the highly subsidized rate of N10,000, making it accessible to a broad spectrum of youths and reflecting the state government's commitment to inclusive economic development.
Hon. Pharm Chika Ugwuoke emphasized Governor Peter Mbah's dedication to skills development, considering it a crucial element for employability and wealth creation. The commissioner highlighted the immense potential in the fashion industry, currently valued at $1.31 billion in Nigeria, and stressed the need to empower Enugu youths to tap into this lucrative sector.
This move draws inspiration from successful models in countries like Egypt, Italy, China, Japan, and other rapidly growing economies. By reducing the financial barrier to acquiring fashion design skills, the Enugu State government aims to encourage widespread participation, ultimately fostering economic growth and prosperity.
Hon. Pharm Ugwuoke expressed gratitude for the governor's support, urging Enugu citizens to expect more job creation initiatives under the current administration. He encouraged interested individuals to apply for the program, emphasizing a transparent and first-come, first-served basis.
As the first batch of trainees embarks on this transformative journey, Enugu State anticipates a surge in skilled fashion professionals contributing to the vibrant and evolving landscape of the Nigerian fashion industry. This groundbreaking initiative aligns with the state's commitment to creating an environment conducive to skill development, economic empowerment, and sustainable growth.
