Enugu Woman Wins 2024 Ethics and Integrity Ambassador's Award

An international Non-governmental Organisation dedicated to exposing corruption, promoting ethical leadership, and providing ethical education and value re-orientation to global citizens, known as the Center for Ethics and Self Value Orientation, on Friday, May 17, 2024, sent a high-profile delegation who visited Enugu State to honor Mrs. Ihuoma Eze, the state Coordinator of the World Bank-sponsored Agro Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) project with the Ethics and Integrity Ambassador's Award which acknowledges high-powered individuals who have demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to ethical principles and integrity in their professional and personal lives, serving as role models for the community and the nation.

This recognition followed an exhaustive eight-month secret inquiry into the operations of her office, culminating in the conferral of the esteemed Ethics and Integrity Ambassador's Award.

The delegation, led by Prince Salih Musa Yakubu, Executive Director of the Center for Ethics and Self Evaluation Orientation, included prominent figures such as Engr. Malik Shaibu, Head of Quality Assurance and Projects Monitoring, and Ethicist Ambassador Godwin Barko.

In his address, Prince Yakubu underlined the mission of the Center, which has been a pillar of national development for the past 18 years. The organization is committed to holding public offices accountable and fostering responsible citizenship. He commended Mrs. Eze for her outstanding leadership and ethical conduct in the management of the APPEALS project.

"The APPEALS project aims to reduce poverty, alleviate hunger, and create job opportunities," said Prince Yakubu. "Regrettably, we have witnessed corruption in some states, but Enugu has distinguished itself through the exceptional leadership of Mrs. Ihuoma Eze. She has exemplified professionalism, ethical behavior, and a dedication to the welfare of the people."

Prince Yakubu praised Mrs. Eze's innovative strategies and efforts to decentralize the project, which have greatly benefited local governments. He revealed that Enugu State's APPEALS project ranks second nationwide in meeting the Center’s standards and presented Mrs. Eze with the Ethics and Integrity Ambassador's Award, declaring her office a gold medalist.

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Mrs. Eze expressed her gratitude to the Center for Ethics and Self Evaluation Orientation for recognizing her work and honoring her with the award. She attributed the success to her team's collective effort, the support from the Enugu State government, the national coordinating offices of the APPEALS project, and the World Bank team.

"I am deeply honored to receive this award," Mrs. Eze said. "This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of my team. We have been committed to serving humanity and improving livelihoods in Enugu State. I thank God for His grace, my parents for instilling values in me, and everyone who has supported us."

The ceremony was attended by key Enugu APPEALS officers, including Mr. Onyishi, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mr. Chidi Enebe, and Chizoba Ede, among others.

With this award, Mrs. Ihuoma Eze joins a distinguished group of leaders in the IION Hall of Fame, which includes former Heads of State of Nigeria, former Governors, National Assembly Members, former ministers, prominent business moguls, scholars, and Nigeria's former and present Ambassadors. Notable inductees include Senator Abba, Iwuanyanwu, Ibrahim Babangida, Emeka Anyaoku, Gbajabiamila, Otedola, and Soyinka.

This recognition follows another recent accolade for Mrs. Eze, who was awarded the prestigious leadership award by the South East Media Forum just last week. The event was marked by grandeur and honor, celebrating her exceptional contributions to humanity, remarkable leadership qualities, and unwavering commitment to uplifting communities through her role as the Coordinator of the Enugu APPEALS Project.
