A Cry for Justice: Enugu Man Brutally Assaulted for Defending Minister’s Achievements

In a deeply troubling incident, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Enugu North Senatorial Zone, Comrade Chika Idoko, was allegedly attacked and viciously beaten by the former APC Enugu State Chairman, Ugochukwu Agballa, and his associates. The attack reportedly occurred during a meeting of the State Executive Committee at the APC Enugu State party house.

According to reports, the brutal assault took place when Comrade Idoko spoke up in defense of the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology. His only "offense" was promoting the minister’s achievements—a gesture that appears to have triggered this shocking act of violence. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and distressing, with Idoko enduring severe physical abuse for simply recognizing the work of a public official.

This incident has left many outraged, raising serious concerns about freedom of speech, democracy, and the values that the APC claims to uphold. As news of the attack spreads, there has been an overwhelming call for justice, with members of the public, civil society, and human rights advocates condemning the violence.

“This is heartbreaking and shameful,” a source close to Idoko stated. “To think that someone can be brutally assaulted for merely expressing support for a public servant is beyond comprehension. This act of violence shakes the core of our humanity and is a direct violation of decency, justice, and democratic values.”

The involvement of Ugo Agballa, a former chairman of the party, in this incident has also raised eyebrows. Many are alarmed by the fact that such violence was allegedly carried out by people in positions of leadership—individuals who should serve as protectors of the party's ideals and not perpetrators of aggression. The thought that Comrade Idoko, a loyal party member, was subjected to such trauma by fellow members of his own political family has left many disillusioned.

Critics have pointed out that if left unchecked, this incident could set a dangerous precedent, allowing political intimidation and violence to thrive within the APC. “What kind of message does this send about the state of democracy and free speech within the party?” one political commentator asked. “How can a party that prides itself on progressive ideals tolerate such brutality?”

Calls for action have intensified, with demands that the Enugu State Police Command launch a full investigation into the matter. Human rights groups are also urging the APC at both state and national levels to address the issue and ensure that all those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

“It’s crucial that this incident be lawfully investigated, and that all the hoodlums involved are held accountable,” another concerned party member said. “This isn’t just about Comrade Chika Idoko. This is about defending the very essence of justice and democracy.”

The Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, whose achievements were at the center of the altercation, has also been urged to step in. Many believe that the minister should take immediate action to ensure the safety and protection of Comrade Idoko, who has been left vulnerable in the wake of this attack.

As the call for justice grows louder, it remains to be seen how both the APC and the authorities will respond. For many, this attack goes beyond the physical assault on Comrade Idoko—it represents an attack on justice, freedom of speech, and the core values of a democratic society.

The public and civil society groups are making it clear: such cruelty cannot be tolerated, and those responsible must be held to accountable.
