BREAKING: Police Warn POS Operators Against Transactions Above ₦500,000

The Delta State Police Command has issued a stern warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators, advising them to avoid transactions exceeding ₦500,000, as such transactions may associate them with criminal activities, including kidnappings.

SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, explained that POS operators who handle large transactions could unintentionally become accomplices to criminals. Highlighting a recent incident, he mentioned a POS operator who facilitated a ransom payment of ₦4 million and received ₦40,000 as commission, cautioning that such activities can have legal consequences. “Don’t allow yourself to be used by kidnappers to collect ransom,” Edafe warned, stressing that these transactions could be traced back to the operators.

Edafe emphasized that engaging in POS transactions above ₦500,000 could land operators in legal trouble. He advised them to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to federal regulations, which are aimed at curbing large transactions to prevent misuse by criminals. “You might think you’re just doing business, but the legal consequences could be severe. Before your lawyer can intervene, you might spend time behind bars,” he stated.

The police also urged POS operators to report suspicious transactions to the authorities and follow proper guidelines to avoid being implicated in criminal activities. The warning underscores the crucial role that POS operators play in ensuring security and the risks involved in neglecting regulatory measures. SP Edafe advised them to be cautious and follow the rules to protect themselves from legal repercussions.
