JUST IN: General System Collapse Plungs South-East Into Darkness at 18:48hrs 14|10|24 ...EEDC Announces Restoration Time

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has announced a widespread power outage affecting its entire network, following a general system collapse. The company disclosed the situation in an official statement released by Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications, at 18:48 hours on Monday, 14th October 2024.

According to the announcement, the system collapse has resulted in an immediate disruption of power supply across all five states under the EEDC’s jurisdiction—Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo. The collapse, which originated from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has left all interface stations without power, rendering EEDC unable to meet the energy needs of its customers.

The statement reads:

"The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October, 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across EEDC network."

The EEDC further highlighted that it is actively monitoring the situation and remains in close contact with the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo, Osun State, which oversees grid operations nationwide. However, as of the time of the release, no detailed information about the cause of the collapse or the estimated time for restoration has been made available.

"Consequently, due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States," the statement continued.

The general system collapse underscores the fragile nature of Nigeria's power infrastructure, which has been marred by frequent grid failures. These outages often have far-reaching impacts, disrupting economic activities, essential services, and the daily lives of millions. As citizens in the affected states await power restoration, the EEDC has assured that it is on standby, ready to restore services as soon as the NCC provides further instructions and clarity on the situation.

The statement concluded with the EEDC expressing gratitude to its customers for their patience during this unexpected outage:

"We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo. Thank you."

The affected areas—Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States—represent a significant portion of southeastern Nigeria, and the power outage is expected to strain both household and commercial activities. As the EEDC and TCN work to address the issue, businesses, healthcare facilities, and homes in these regions are preparing to cope with the extended blackout.

The EEDC has not provided a timeline for when power will be restored, but they have promised to keep the public informed of any new developments.
