Youths Demands Governor’s Resignation Over Fulani Herdsmen Attacks
......This demand comes in the aftermath of a fresh assault on Ehamufu community, with OYC citing it as part of a disturbing pattern of unchecked violence that has rocked communities in Isi-Uzo, Uzo Uwani, and other parts of the state....
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Enugu State Chapter, has issued a bold and scathing call for the resignation of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, accusing his administration of failing to protect lives and property amidst a wave of violent attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
In a press briefing, Mazi David C. Ani, State Chairman of the OYC, lambasted the government for what he described as “consistent downplaying of security threats” and an unforgivable lack of urgency in responding to the carnage left in the wake of the attacks. According to him, the state's approach has emboldened the attackers and exposed the helplessness of innocent residents.
“When a government fails to fulfill its primary duty—protecting its people—then that government has lost its legitimacy,” Ani said.
He further warned that the people of Enugu State can no longer stand by while being “massacred like animals” and hinted at mobilizing mass protests and self-defense initiatives if the state continues on what he called a “dangerous path of denial and inaction.”
The youth council referenced both international humanitarian law and a previous warning by the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), which recognized the right of citizens to defend themselves when state protection is absent.
The OYC’s position has intensified public discourse, placing mounting pressure on the Mbah administration. Critics say the government must take immediate and concrete steps to tackle the security breakdown or risk losing public confidence completely.
With tensions escalating, the people of Enugu are looking to the government for reassurance. Many now view the OYC’s outcry not as mere youthful agitation, but as a reflection of the growing frustration shared by communities who feel abandoned.
As the state teeters on the edge of deeper unrest, the spotlight is now firmly on Governor Peter Mbah to either act decisively or step aside.
