NANS Teams Up with Nigerian Police, Anti-Cult Unit, Volunteers to Campaign Against Cultism and Other Social Vices

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Enugu State Chapter, under the leadership of Comr. Prisca Okeke, took a significant step towards combating social vices by joining forces with the Nigeria Police Force's Anti-Cult unit and a volunteer Anti-Cult movement. The collaboration aims to raise awareness and campaign against cultism, drug abuse, rape, illegal possession of firearms, and violence within the society.

On Saturday, July 1, 2023, a remarkable march against cultism and social vices took place, drawing the participation of students from various campuses across Enugu State. Comr. Prisca Okeke, the newly elected Chairman of NANS Enugu State Axis, spearheaded the initiative.

During her address, Comrade Okeke urged the youth and students to distance themselves from social vices that could jeopardize their future. She emphasized the importance of focusing on their studies and encouraged them to promptly report any cases of cultism or drug abuse to the Anti-Cult Unit in Enugu State.

Comr. Okeke pledged to maintain and strengthen the partnership between NANS and the security departments and police, aiming to enhance awareness and education about the dangers of cultism. She stressed the need for continuous sensitization to ensure that the message reaches as many young individuals as possible.

In addition to the march, Comr. Prisca Okeke announced NANS Enugu State Chapter's plan to embark on a Campus Tour to intensify the campaign against cultism and social vices. Recognizing that the student community constitutes a significant proportion of individuals vulnerable to antisocial behavior, she emphasized the importance of proactive measures to address these issues.

The collaboration between NANS, the Anti-Cult unit of the Nigeria Police Force, and the volunteer Anti-Cult movement signifies a united effort to combat social vices that threaten the well-being and future of Nigerian students. With their joint campaign against cultism, drug abuse, rape, illegal possession of firearms, and violence, they aim to create a safer and more conducive environment for learning and personal development within Enugu State.

As NANS Enugu State Chapter continues its mission to eradicate social vices among students, it is hoped that their efforts will foster positive change and empower the younger generation to make informed decisions, pursue their education diligently, and contribute positively to society.

NANS is an apex students umbrella body that represents the interests of Nigerian students in Nigeria Diaspora, saddled with the responsibility of protecting and promoting the rights and welfare of students across various educational institutions in Nigeria.

The organization plays a crucial role in advocating for quality education, affordable tuition fees, student welfare, and the overall well-being of students. NANS also acts as a platform for student leaders to voice their concerns, engage in dialogue with relevant stakeholders, and contribute to policy-making decisions that affect students.

NANS chapters are established at the state and Zonal levels, allowing for effective representation and coordination of student activities and initiatives within specific regions. These chapters work closely with local student bodies, educational institutions, and government authorities to address the needs and concerns of students in their respective areas.
