FlashNews: Police Restricts Movement for Enugu Polls

As Enugu State prepares for local council elections on September 21, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, has announced a comprehensive security plan to ensure peaceful voting. Key measures include the deployment of personnel and resources, with a restriction on human and vehicular movement across the state from midnight until 6:00 p.m. on Election Day. Exceptions will be made only for essential services, media personnel, election officials, and accredited observers.

The Commissioner, in a statement released by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, emphasized that the restriction extends to armed security personnel on VIP protection duties, stating that no VIPs would be allowed to bring escorts to the polling centres.

Uzuegbu further warned against any acts of electoral violence, noting that security forces would be on high alert to prevent and respond to any disruptions. He urged political parties and their supporters to follow the election guidelines laid out by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC). Additionally, he warned against the use of thugs, stressing that anyone caught engaging in violence would face the full force of the law.

The Commissioner’s statement reflects the state's commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and secure election environment. This announcement has raised the stakes for a peaceful and orderly process, as Enugu’s citizens prepare to head to the polls under heightened security measures.
