NKANU WEST: Hon John Ogbodo’s Disruptive Roadmap, a Desired Blueprint for Sustainable Growth and Inclusive Development



The People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon John Ogbodo, has presented a transformative Roadmap hailed by the people of Nkanu West as a Desired Blueprint for Sustainable Growth and Inclusive Development. His bold manifesto, unveiled during a meeting with key stakeholders, focuses on transforming critical sectors such as education, infrastructure, healthcare, security, agriculture, and youth and women empowerment. This comprehensive action plan underscores Hon. Ogbodo’s commitment to addressing the developmental needs of Nkanu West, fostering unity, and creating opportunities for all.

The much-anticipated manifesto was unveiled during a well-attended meeting with key stakeholders. The gathering, which saw the convergence of notable figures from the area, marked the commencement of his campaign ahead of the 21st September Local Government Council elections in Enugu State. Hon. Ogbodo took the opportunity to commend the visionary leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, highlighting how his policies have laid a solid foundation for development in Enugu State. He expressed his alignment with the governor's agenda while presenting his own detailed action plan for the people of Nkanu West.


During the event, Hon. Ogbodo officially inaugurated of his Campaign Council, appointing Hon. Onyeka Onwe as the Director-General, Chief Moses Aniemeka (Nnamuzie) as the Deputy Director-General, and Barr. Chidi Ani as the Secretary. He charged them with the responsibility of ensuring a successful campaign, calling for collective effort and unity to secure a PDP victory. His speech was laced with a message of hope, peace, unity, and inclusion for all, setting the tone for his candidacy in the upcoming elections.


Hon. Ogbodo outlined his manifesto, which focused on six critical sectors—education, infrastructure, health, security, agriculture, and youth and women empowerment. In education, he emphasized the need to upgrade educational infrastructure, including classrooms, libraries, and science labs, while also pledging to offer scholarships and bursaries to underprivileged students. He underscored the importance of vocational training centers and collaborations with higher institutions to provide specialized training and equip youths with marketable skills.


His vision for infrastructure included strategic urban planning to modernize town layouts, improve drainage systems, and construct rural roads to connect communities to vital services such as markets, schools, and health centers. Hon. Ogbodo also promised to work towards ensuring access to clean water in remote communities through partnerships with the state government.


In the healthcare sector, Hon. Ogbodo committed to upgrading primary health care centers, deploying mobile health clinics to underserved areas, and implementing preventive health programs like vaccination campaigns. He also highlighted the need for mental health support services to promote overall well-being in the local government area.


To address security concerns, he proposed a community policing model, which would work in collaboration with state security agencies. This model would include the formation of neighborhood watch groups and the deployment of surveillance technology to enhance crime prevention and public safety.


On agriculture, Hon. Ogbodo pledged to modernize farming practices by introducing advanced techniques, establishing cooperatives, and creating market linkages to ensure that local farmers receive fair prices for their produce. His goal was to make agriculture a cornerstone of economic development in Nkanu West.


The empowerment of youth and women was another central theme of his manifesto. He promised to initiate youth empowerment programs that would engage the youth in leadership training, sports, and the arts. He also stressed the importance of mentorship programs and ensuring that women play a significant role in community development through targeted empowerment initiatives.


The event was attended by influential personalities, including Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, member representing Nkanu East and West in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu, member representing Nkanu West in the Enugu State House of Assembly, and Hon. Barr. Steve Oruruo, Deputy Chairman of Enugu State PDP. Also present were Prof. Ikechukwu Emmanuel Obi, Honourable Commissioner for Health in Enugu State, Hon. Dan Nwomeh, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, and Hon. Uche Ejim, immediate past Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area. The event also drew the attendance of other notable figures such as Barr. Ray Nnaji, PDP Youth Leader in Nkanu West, Hon. Sunday Onovo, and PDP Women Leader Hon. Mrs. Helen Nnamani, alongside former chairmen of Nkanu West and other stakeholders.


The unveiling of Hon. Ogbodo’s manifesto and the inauguration of his Campaign Council was met with enthusiasm, as attendees expressed their confidence in his vision for sustainable development across Nkanu West. His candidacy continues to gather momentum, with many believing that his disruptive roadmap will bring about the desired transformation in the local government area.
