BREAKING NEWS: Wike's Name Removed from Council Building By APP Newly Elected Chairman

The newly elected chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has taken the significant step of removing the name of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, from the administrative block of the council secretariat. This move has drawn considerable attention due to Wike’s influence and legacy in the state.

Wike, who hails from Rumuepirikom community in Obio Akpor LGA, served as a former governor of Rivers State and previously held the position of local council chairman in the same local government area. His name was prominently displayed on the administrative building of the council, symbolizing his long-standing connection to the region. However, this has now been replaced by the name of late Senator Dr. Obi Wali, a notable politician and activist in Rivers State, who was highly regarded for his contributions to the state's political landscape.

Chairman Ihunwo made this announcement in a post on his X page, @AmbChijioke, on Sunday, accompanied by a video showing the removal of Wike’s name from the building. In the post, he stated, "We have changed Wike’s name in the admin block of Obio/Akpor Council, and replaced it with the name of SENATOR DR. OBI WALI."

Ihunwo, alongside 22 other newly elected local government chairpersons, was recently sworn into office by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara following the recent council elections. The Action Peoples Party (APP) emerged victorious in 22 out of the 23 local council seats contested, while the Action Alliance (AA) secured one council seat. Both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had opposed the conduct of the election.

This decision to replace Wike’s name with that of Obi Wali has stirred discussions, reflecting the ongoing political shifts in Rivers State under the leadership of newly elected officials.
