FEAR: IPOB Threatens Action Against Nigerian Lawmakers Over Proposed IDP Camp in Igbo Land

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to Nigerian lawmakers, particularly Senator Frank Ibezim and other representatives from Imo State, over the proposed establishment of an Internally Displaced People (IDP) camp in the South-East region. In a strongly-worded statement, Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, condemned the initiative, calling it a covert operation to bring terrorists and bandits into the region, which the group has labeled "dead on arrival."

IPOB emphasized its total rejection of the proposed IDP skills acquisition center in Imo State, arguing that such a move is a deliberate attempt to alter the demographic composition of the Biafra Nation. The group warned that any Igbo politician who supports this project should prepare to face severe consequences, as they view the plan as part of a broader strategy by the Nigerian government to undermine the security and unity of the South-East.

"We state categorically that this covert operation to import terrorists and bandits into Biafra land is dead on arrival," IPOB declared in its statement. "In the light of the said project, IPOB is warning all Igbo politicians who see the deployment of terrorists and bandits in the name of an IDP camp as their dividend of democracy from a Federal Government that hates the Igbo Nation of Biafra to be ready for the consequences."

The statement specifically singled out Senator Frank Ibezim, who represents Imo North Senatorial District, as well as lawmakers representing the Owerri and Orlu zones. IPOB accused these politicians of colluding with the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, to support the federal government’s plan to use the IDP center as a cover for importing Fulani herders and almajiris into the region. The group warned that these leaders would be held accountable if they allow the camp to be established.

"All the Imo State politicians that colluded with Hope Uzodinma to import Fulanis and almajiris using the IDP Skill Acquisition Center as a cover should be prepared for what is coming," IPOB warned. The group stressed that no part of Biafra Land would be available for such a camp and that the Northern region, where there is ample space, should accommodate any displaced persons from the North.

IPOB reiterated that it would not tolerate any foreign elements, especially those it perceives as terrorist threats, being brought into the South-East. The group reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the Biafra Nation, vowing to resist any attempts to alter its demographic and cultural landscape.

This latest confrontation highlights the continued tensions between IPOB and the Nigerian government, a conflict that has intensified since the controversial arrest and detention of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. IPOB has consistently accused the government of working against the interests of the Biafra Nation and has taken a hard stance on any policies that it believes threaten the security and unity of the region.

Biafra, which is located in Nigeria's South-East and parts of the South-South, is historically known as the region that sought independence from Nigeria, leading to the Biafra-Nigeria Civil War from 1967 to 1970. The conflict resulted in the death of over three million Igbos, predominantly women and children, and the scars of that war continue to shape the political landscape of the region today.
