FG Allocates N254 Million to Enhance Primary Healthcare in Enugu State

The Federal Government has allocated N254 million to enhance primary healthcare in Enugu State, reaffirming its commitment to improving health services in the region. This significant financial boost was announced by Dr. Muyi Aina, the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), in a statement released from Abuja.

Dr. Aina disclosed this development during his recent courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, where he commended the state's dedication to implementing the Federal Government’s health policies. He praised Enugu State for its impressive strides in healthcare, notably the recruitment of 450 health workers and the construction of 260 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state's various wards.

“Investing in primary healthcare is vital for improving health outcomes, especially in rural communities where access to services is limited,” Dr. Aina stated. He further highlighted that the NPHCDA is focused on revitalizing PHC facilities across the nation, a crucial step towards ensuring that health services reach underserved populations. The agency's efforts also include direct facility financing and retraining over 3,000 health workers to improve the quality of care.

In his remarks, Dr. Aina urged the Enugu State Government to integrate casual health workers into the formal health system. This, he noted, would help ensure a stable and skilled workforce, which is essential for sustaining the progress made in healthcare delivery in the state.

The partnership between the NPHCDA and the Enugu State Government has played a key role in upgrading the state’s healthcare infrastructure and services. With the continued collaboration, both parties aim to enhance the primary healthcare system, bringing vital health services closer to the people, particularly those in rural communities.
