NEWS FLASH: Igbo-Eze South Chairman, Hon Barr Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, Elected Vice Chairman Enugu State ALGON

 


 

The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Barr. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze, has been elected as the Vice Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter. The election, held during the inaugural meeting at ALGON House, Independence Layout, Enugu, marked a significant step in shaping the future of grassroots governance in the state.

At the meeting on Wednesday, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Hon. Sydney Edeh, was returned as the Chairman, while Hon. Uche Okolo, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, was re-elected as the Secretary. The leadership selection drew attention from local government stakeholders who anticipate a stronger focus on development at the grassroots level.

Reacting to his election as the Vice Chairman, Barr. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze expressed his profound gratitude to his colleagues for entrusting him with such a key position in ALGON’s leadership. He acknowledged the honor and responsibility associated with the office and reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sydney Edeh, to advance the agenda of rural development across Enugu State.

In his acceptance speech, Barr. Ukwueze emphasized his dedication to supporting the Chairman in steering the association towards achieving meaningful progress in line with the vision of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration. He pledged to focus on ensuring that local governments become vital engines of development, helping to uplift rural areas by delivering essential services and improving the standard of living for the people.

“I am deeply honored by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me,” Barr. Ukwueze remarked. “I will work tirelessly to support the Chairman in piloting the affairs of ALGON in a way that ensures the growth and development of our local communities. We will prioritize the Governor’s Tomorrow Is Here agenda by transforming rural areas through effective governance, transparency, and sustainable development initiatives.”

Barr. Ukwueze also took the opportunity to commend Governor Peter Mbah for creating an enabling environment for local governance to thrive. He attributed the success of the democratic process that brought about his election to the governor’s sterling leadership, which has positioned Enugu State as a beacon of hope for the future. “Governor Mbah has provided the conducive atmosphere for local government leadership to flourish. Today’s election is a testament to that. Indeed, in Enugu State, our ‘Tomorrow Is Here,’” he added.

In a heartfelt message to the people of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Barr. Ukwueze reassured them of his unwavering commitment to leading the council towards new heights of progress. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to its ‘Progress Agenda’ mantra, which prioritizes improving the quality of life in rural communities by addressing critical infrastructure needs and enhancing access to basic amenities.

“Our Progress Agenda will focus on providing essential services that will uplift the living conditions in our communities. We will tackle issues such as healthcare, education, water supply, and rural electrification to ensure that our people enjoy a better quality of life. Igbo-Eze South deserves nothing less, and I am fully committed to delivering on this promise,” Barr. Ukwueze assured.

With the election of Barr. Ukwueze as the Vice Chairman of ALGON, expectations are high that his leadership will bring about significant improvements in the administration of local governments across Enugu State.
