NAFDAC Warns Nigerians on Use Of Recalled Nivea Roll-On Deodorant
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert in Nigeria regarding the recall of the Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml. This recall follows a notification from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels, which flagged concerns about the product’s safety in African climates, despite its 48-hour protection claim.
In an announcement released on Thursday, NAFDAC specified that the product in question bears the batch number 93529610. The agency highlighted that this Nivea deodorant contains **2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde**, a chemical banned in cosmetic products due to its potential health risks. These risks include potential harm to the reproductive system, possible impairment to the health of unborn children, and severe skin irritation or burns for users.
NAFDAC also disclosed that this deodorant is manufactured in Germany and carries the Bar Code Number 42299882. The agency urged all importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise heightened vigilance across the supply chain. NAFDAC specifically advised against the importation, distribution, sale, and use of this particular batch of Nivea Roll-on deodorants.
For those already in possession of this batch, NAFDAC advised immediately ceasing sales or usage and submitting any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are further encouraged to report any adverse reactions associated with the use of regulated products. Reports can be submitted through the agency's contact channels, including pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, NAFDAC’s E-reporting platform at [www.nafdac.gov.ng](http://www.nafdac.gov.ng), or via the Med-safety mobile app, available on both Android and iOS platforms.
This alert underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to consumer safety and its dedication to mitigating risks associated with unsafe products in Nigeria.
