SAD! Woman Found Dead in Freezer After Reporting Suspicions About Alleged Killer
Authorities are investigating a disturbing case in Las Vegas involving the death of Monique Gilbertson, 68, whose body was discovered in a freezer weeks after she reportedly raised concerns about her former roommate, Daniel Roush. Roush, 37, who identifies as Jazzlynn Roush, now faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with Gilbertson's death.
The sequence of events began when Gilbertson, who lived in a 55-and-older community near Nellis Boulevard and Vegas Valley Drive, allowed Roush to move in after meeting him at a store. Roush initially assisted Gilbertson with household tasks, but tensions arose over cleanliness. Around October 22, Gilbertson reportedly became frustrated with Roush’s behavior, leading her to evict him and change the locks.
On November 6, a welfare check was requested by an employee of the property management office after Gilbertson stopped her regular calls to the office. During the welfare check, police found Roush and another woman inside the home. Roush, when questioned, allegedly told officers he discovered Gilbertson unresponsive in a dining room chair and decided to place her in the freezer because he "did not know what to do." He suggested Gilbertson might have overdosed on cocaine and fentanyl, substances he claimed to have sold her.
The 911 call records reveal that Gilbertson had previously contacted authorities about a firearm she found among Roush’s belongings, expressing fears for her safety. However, it remains unclear how far her report progressed or if it was adequately addressed. The individual who reported Gilbertson missing also mentioned this prior incident to the dispatcher.
Investigators found no indication of other roommates or conflicts with anyone else in Gilbertson’s life leading up to her death. While Roush claimed Gilbertson might have been using drugs, the employee who called 911 doubted these allegations, stating that Gilbertson neither used drugs nor consumed alcohol.
Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of death. Documents revealed limited details, noting the presence of a small amount of blood near the body. Police are still piecing together how Roush may have gained access to the home after the locks were changed.
Roush, who declined to be interviewed from jail, has yet to provide further explanations. Investigators continue to probe the case, examining the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome. Gilbertson’s death has sparked concerns about the adequacy of responses to potential threats reported by vulnerable individuals, underscoring the need for a thorough review of such procedures.
