[NKANU EAST] 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

  

As part of the ongoing 16-Day Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence, Mrs. Rita Edeh, the Chairlady of Nkanu East Local Government Area and ALGON Lady, led a highly impactful event at the council secretariat yesterday. The program, a flagship project of the First Lady of Enugu State, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, aims to combat gender-based violence and empower women across the state.

The event was graced by the First Lady, represented by her Personal Assistant, Mrs. Ifeoma Amadi. Also in attendance were the Chairlady of Nkanu West and other chairladies from various local government areas, further emphasizing the collaborative nature of this initiative.


In her address, Mrs. Rita Edeh commended Her Excellency for her unwavering commitment to the welfare of women and her leadership in the fight against gender-based violence. She described the First Lady as a symbol of humility and a relentless advocate for women’s rights, whose vision has inspired local government leaders to act decisively.

The program in Nkanu East focused on raising awareness about gender-based violence, equipping women with resources to protect themselves, and fostering solidarity within the community. Essential materials and financial support were distributed to women, symbolizing empowerment and the collective effort to address the challenges they face.


Mrs. Edeh emphasized the importance of sustaining the momentum of the campaign, stating, "The fight against gender-based violence begins with empowering women and creating safe spaces for them to thrive."

The joy and gratitude displayed by attendees underscored the significance of the initiative. This event in Nkanu East reflects the commitment of Enugu State’s leadership to addressing gender-based violence and uplifting women across all communities.

The 16-Day Campaign continues to be a powerful platform for advocacy and change, championed by local government leaders under the guidance of the First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah.
