TRAGEDY! Unknown Gunmen Shot Groom Dead Hours Before His Wedding

A young groom identified simply as Bright was brutally murdered less than 24 hours before his wedding in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. Bright, in his early 30s, met his untimely death at Ezego Junction, Ihiala, in a tragic attack by gunmen.

The incident occurred as Bright, his fiancée Chinwendu, their best man, and the chief bridesmaid were returning to the Uli community within the same local government area. The group had gone to pick up the bride in Ihiala town, with Bright following behind on a motorcycle. According to eyewitnesses and family members, Bright had stopped to refuel his bike at Ezego Junction when two unidentified assailants accosted him.

The victim's younger brother recounted the harrowing ordeal, stating, “Bright was carrying one of the bridesmaids, while his best man carried Chinwendu. He was following behind the convoy of motorcycles but stopped at the fuel station. Unknown to him, he was heading into a deadly ambush.”

When Bright failed to catch up with the group, the best man retraced their route and made the gruesome discovery. Bright was found lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to his head near Sky Prince Petrol Station. Witnesses reported that the gunmen, riding a motorcycle, had demanded Bright’s possessions, including his phones, motorcycle, and personal belongings. Despite complying, Bright was still shot twice in the head.

A witness narrated the chilling moment, revealing that even as Bright pleaded for his life and shared his impending nuptials, the assailants showed no mercy. “They took everything, even the food in a flask meant for their night. Bright begged for his life, telling them he was about to wed, but they killed him anyway,” the witness said.

Bright was described by those who knew him as a kind-hearted individual who would go out of his way to help others. His brutal death has plunged his family, friends, and fiancée into unimaginable grief, turning what was meant to be a joyous occasion into a nightmare.

Authorities in the area have yet to comment on the incident, and the perpetrators remain unidentified at the time of this report. The tragedy has reignited concerns over the growing insecurity in Anambra State and the need for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
