BREAKING: Air Peace Suspends Flights to Six Nigerian Locations
Air Peace, one of Nigeria's leading airlines, has officially announced the temporary suspension of flights to and from Warri, Ibadan, Akure, Ilorin, Calabar, and Uyo due to unforeseen maintenance issues.
The airline confirmed that the flight disruptions would affect operations on Wednesday and Thursday, January 15 and 16, 2025. In a statement issued by the airline's Head of Corporate Communications, Ejike Ndiulo, Air Peace assured affected passengers that they had been promptly notified through various communication channels in order to minimize any inconvenience. The airline also expressed regret over the disruption and emphasized its commitment to upholding the highest safety standards for its passengers.
The airline's statement read: "Dear Esteemed Customer, we wish to inform you that flights to and from Warri and Ibadan have been canceled due to unscheduled maintenance. Additionally, flights to Akure, Ilorin, Calabar, and Uyo will also be affected for the same reason. These cancellations will impact operations on Wednesday and Thursday."
The suspension comes amid ongoing concerns raised by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regarding flight delays and cancellations, particularly during the festive season. On December 27, 2024, NCAA Director-General Chris Najomo convened a meeting with the CEOs of all domestic airlines to discuss these persistent issues, which have caused significant passenger frustration.
Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, also shared his personal experience with flight disruptions. He recalled an encounter with frustrated passengers upset by delays, emphasizing the importance of airlines improving communication and transparency, especially during peak travel periods. Achimugu further explained that although airlines are not liable for disruptions caused by force majeure events like weather issues, maintaining clarity with passengers is crucial.
Air Peace has encouraged affected travelers to check updated flight schedules or contact customer service for further assistance.
