BREAKING: Appeal Court Upholds Adedoyin's Death Sentence for Killing OAU Student
The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has upheld the death sentence of Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a popular hotel owner, who was found guilty in the murder case of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master's student at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The appellate court, in a ruling on Thursday, held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death by the lower court.
On October 29, 2024, the court reserved judgment after 16 months of deliberation on the appeal filed by the industrialist.
The judgment read in part: “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”
It further noted that the “Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside.”
Timothy Adegoke, an Abuja-based chartered accountant, had traveled to Ile-Ife on November 5, 2021, to write his Master of Business Administration exams at the OAU Distance Learning Centre.
After not hearing from Adegoke two days after his arrival, his family and friends declared him missing. His body was later found in a shallow grave near the Hilton Hotel and Resorts, where he had been staying. Adegoke left behind a wife and three children.
Investigations revealed that Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resorts, was one of Adegoke’s four murderers.
