BREAKING: Council Chairman Appoints 230 Special Assistants!

The Local Government Council Chairman of Obio-Akpor has Appointed total of 230 Special Assistants

Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, has made headlines by appointing an additional 100 special assistants to his team. This follows his earlier appointment of 130 special assistants earlier this month.

Ihunwo, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the new appointments on January 18, said these individuals were selected to help him achieve his goals for the people of Obio-Akpor. The new appointees join a growing list of supporters, with some familiar names including Augustina Elodi, Obi Chima, and Chigozie Emmanuel Esinulo.

This is not the first time Ihunwo has made significant appointments; in July 2024, he had also appointed 100 special assistants during his tenure as caretaker committee chairman. His appointments have sparked political discussions, especially due to his close ties with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and ongoing political rivalry with former governor Nyesom Wike. The rivalry recently escalated when Wike's name was removed from the council secretariat building in October.

While some praise the chairman for his efforts, the growing number of appointees has also drawn criticism, with concerns about the increasing political patronage within the region.
