Drone Attack on Hospital Kills 67, Scores Injured...
A drone strike on a hospital in El-Fasher, located in Sudan's Darfur region, has resulted in 67 deaths and dozens of injuries, local activists and medical sources reported on Saturday. The attack, which targeted the Saudi Hospital, occurred late on Friday. Thirty-seven of the injured died the following day, bringing the total death toll to 67.
The strike led to the destruction of the hospital's emergency building, a vital medical facility in a region devastated by conflict. It is unclear which side in Sudan's ongoing civil war was responsible for the attack, as both the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are active in the region.
The RSF has controlled much of Darfur since April 2023, while the Sudanese army has managed to hold onto parts of North Darfur, including the city of El-Fasher. The RSF recently issued an ultimatum for the army forces and their allies to vacate the city, heightening tensions in the region.
The United Nations has voiced concern over the safety of civilians in El-Fasher, which is home to approximately two million people. The region has already suffered from heavy shelling and a dire humanitarian crisis, including famine conditions in displacement camps.
The RSF has been accused of using drones in the conflict, with reports indicating that drones have been stationed at RSF-controlled airports. Despite accusations of arms supplies to the RSF from the United Arab Emirates, the UAE has denied these claims.
The conflict in Sudan, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives, continues to worsen, with millions facing starvation and displacement.
