BREAKING: FG Approves N4 Billion Conditional Cash Transfer For Vulnerable Households

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved N4 billion for conditional cash transfers to vulnerable households across the country. This announcement was made during the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan at the United Nations House in Abuja on Thursday.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwada, shared that the funds would be directed to support at least 10 million displaced households, with a focus on the most vulnerable members of society. This initiative, which aims to alleviate the immediate needs of families affected by displacement, particularly in the Northeast, is set to commence in February and continue through April.

The government also allocated N2 billion in interest-free loans for farmers in rural communities to boost food production and self-sufficiency. The loans, ranging from N300,000 to N400,000 per household, will help farmers access resources and link them to market opportunities.

Professor Yilwada highlighted the prioritization of women, especially widows, pregnant women, and those with disabilities, as these groups face heightened challenges due to displacement. The funds are part of the broader government strategy to alleviate poverty and provide relief to those in need.

The Minister added that the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) was developed through extensive consultations to address the humanitarian challenges in conflict-affected regions such as Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe. This multi-faceted approach combines humanitarian, developmental, and peacebuilding efforts to create sustainable solutions for affected communities.
