BREAKING: Former FCT Minister Is Dead
Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, has passed away.
According to family sources, he died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State confirmed the passing in a statement, which was issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.
The governor described General Useni's death as a significant loss to not only his immediate family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the entire nation. Governor Mutfwang praised the late general’s leadership and service, noting his remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s security and political development.
General Useni was known for his tireless efforts in promoting peace and security, especially in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State. The governor highlighted his distinguished military career, where he served in various roles, including as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.
After retiring from the military, General Useni transitioned into politics, where he continued his public service. He served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was elected Senator for Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Mutfwang further expressed his condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the President, the immediate family, and all who mourn the loss of this esteemed statesman.
