BREAKING: Rivers PDP Moves To Suspend Wike, Sets Up Panel to Probe Anti-Party Activities
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has initiated steps to address allegations of anti-party activities by some of its members, including former Governor Nyesom Wike, during the 2023 general elections.
The acting executive committee of the Rivers PDP has announced the formation of a disciplinary panel, which will begin its investigation into actions that are considered harmful to the party’s interests during the elections. The panel’s creation underscores the party's commitment to maintaining internal discipline and cohesion.
The committee stated that the disciplinary panel will not hesitate to recommend sanctions for any member found guilty of undermining the party's efforts. The penalties could include suspension or expulsion, depending on the severity of the actions. The party emphasized that this applies to all members, regardless of their status or influence.
Although the PDP leadership did not name individuals, speculation about Wike’s role in the elections continues to circulate. Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in the APC-led federal government, has faced accusations from some party members of working against PDP candidates during the 2023 polls.
The establishment of the disciplinary panel represents a significant step in the Rivers PDP's post-election review process. Party insiders suggest that the investigation could lead to heightened tensions, especially if high-profile members are implicated.
