Gunmen Kill Former Permanent Secretary
The tragic news of the death of Atiku Mu'azu, a retired Permanent Secretary and former Chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service, has sent shockwaves through Gombe State. Governor Muhammadu Yahaya expressed his condolences on Saturday, following reports that Mu'azu was abducted and killed in Kano State, where he had been residing post-retirement.
According to details, Mu'azu, who lived in Kabuga/Jan Bulo Estate along Gwarzo Road in Kano, received a call from his mechanic informing him that his stolen car had been found. He was urged to meet them to identify and retrieve it. However, Mu'azu never returned after meeting the individuals.
The family later received a ransom demand of N20 million, but only N10 million was raised and paid to the kidnappers. Sadly, the deceased's body was later found dumped by the roadside at a different location. A suspect has been arrested in connection to the crime, though the mechanic involved is reportedly on the run.
Governor Yahaya, in a condolence message, praised the quick action of security agencies in apprehending a suspect and urged them to ensure a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
The governor also prayed for Mu'azu’s soul and extended his condolences to the deceased's family, friends, and the people of Kalishen in Shongom Local Government Area, his hometown.
This senseless killing highlights the growing security concerns in parts of Nigeria, where abductions for ransom remain a significant threat.
