I Lost My Sight, Had Kidney Transplant -Dj Jimmy Jatt Expalins Public Absence
DJ Jimmy Jatt Opens Up About His Sudden Disappearance, Explains How He Battled with Chronic Kidney Disease, and Lost His Sight
Nigerian disc jockey and music icon, Oluwaforijimi Amu, better known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, has shared the deeply personal journey of his battle with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the transformative experience of undergoing a kidney transplant. In an emotional interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka, DJ Jimmy Jatt offered a glimpse into the challenges that have shaped both his health and outlook on life.
The celebrated DJ revealed that his health challenges began in 2020, a year that would drastically alter his life. It started with the loss of his sight, a condition that required immediate surgery to restore his vision. Reflecting on the events leading up to his health crisis, DJ Jimmy Jatt explained that his decision to step outside his comfort zone may have played a part in the onset of his condition.
“In 2019, I said that I wanted to spend more time outside Nigeria. I had lived all my life in Lagos and wanted to explore the world—Europe, America, everywhere,” he shared. Unfortunately, his health complications disrupted his travel plans, and the once-promising journey took a sudden turn.
While in the United States, DJ Jimmy Jatt’s health further deteriorated. It was there that he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and began receiving dialysis treatment. The DJ recalled his feelings of shock and disbelief at the time, describing how his life was upended by the unexpected diagnosis.
“After I had surgery to regain my sight, I thought I needed a break and decided to follow through with my plan of living abroad for a while. But during that time, I was diagnosed with CKD and had to go through dialysis,” he said.
Despite the tough times, DJ Jimmy Jatt remained determined to face the challenges head-on. After a period of treatment, he returned to Nigeria, where he would eventually undergo a kidney transplant in 2022.
The transplant marked a significant turning point in the DJ’s health journey. However, DJ Jimmy Jatt chose to maintain a low profile after the surgery, prioritizing his recovery and healing. He continued to DJ in the U.S. and Europe while taking the necessary time to regain his strength.
“After the transplant, I decided to be quiet for a while to recover properly,” he said. “I came back to Nigeria in December after spending some time away.” His return to the public eye came after his health had stabilized, and he was ready to share his story with the world.
One of the most poignant moments during the interview was when DJ Jimmy Jatt addressed misconceptions surrounding kidney disease, particularly the assumption that it is always linked to lifestyle choices. He emphasized that his condition was not caused by smoking or drinking, as many people might assume.
“Lifestyle is not always the cause of kidney ailments. I’ve never smoked, and I stopped drinking alcohol a long time ago. In my case, it was caused by diabetes,” he explained. This important clarification serves to shed light on the fact that various factors can contribute to kidney disease, and it is not always the result of an unhealthy lifestyle.
DJ Jimmy Jatt’s openness about his health journey has been both inspiring and educational for his fans, and his resilience has left a lasting impact. His willingness to share the realities of living with chronic kidney disease and the life-altering experience of a transplant highlights the importance of raising awareness about kidney health. Through his story, DJ Jimmy Jatt has become a beacon of hope for others who may be facing similar health struggles.
As he continues his recovery and returns to his craft, DJ Jimmy Jatt’s fans are rallying behind him, not just for his musical talent but for his strength, courage, and willingness to speak openly about a topic that is often shrouded in silence.
In the years to come, DJ Jimmy Jatt’s story will undoubtedly remain an inspiring testament to the power of resilience and the importance of prioritizing one’s health.
