Ohanaeze Faction Endorses Tinubu For 2027, Wants New States Created, Nnamdi Kanu Released

A faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, signaling support for his leadership as the 2027 general elections approach. The endorsement came in a statement released on Sunday, signed by the group's Deputy President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro. The statement also appealed to President Tinubu to use his powers to facilitate the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), by 2025. Isiguzoro emphasized that Kanu's release would not only demonstrate mercy but also play a crucial role in restoring peace to the Southeast region, which has faced significant security challenges.

In addition to advocating for Kanu’s release, Ohanaeze called for urgent attention to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Southeast’s decaying federal roads, under the guidance of Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi. The group urged that the completion of these vital infrastructure projects be prioritized before the end of 2026.

Ohanaeze also reiterated the importance of honoring Nigeria’s unwritten agreement regarding rotational presidency between the North and South. The group emphasized that the presidency should remain in the South through 2031, following the North’s eight-year tenure under Muhammadu Buhari.

The faction criticized the opposition for a lack of unity and leadership, warning against political strategies that could undermine the interests of the Igbo people. The group also recalled previous political alliances, including with Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in 2019, which did not serve the Southeast’s interests.

Furthermore, the organization proposed initiatives to advance the region, including fair representation in the 2025 Census, and the creation of new states such as Anioma in the South-South and Aba in the Southeast to promote regional equity. Key economic projects, including the reopening of the Calabar Seaport, revitalizing the Enugu Coal Mine, and modernizing railway networks, were also highlighted as essential for the region’s growth.

In conclusion, Ohanaeze reaffirmed its commitment to the unity and progress of the Southeast, calling for a collective effort to secure a brighter, more stable
