Police Launch Investigation into DPO’s Alleged Misconduct with Minor
A non-governmental organization, International Human Right Today Initiative (HRTI), led by Comrade Maiyasin, has filed a complaint with the Katsina State Police Headquarters against a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dutsinma, CSP Bello Gusau, accusing him of taking a 15-year-old girl detained at the police station to his house, where she spent the night.
The HRTI organization conducted an investigation and gathered evidence confirming that the girl had indeed spent the night at the DPO’s residence, not at the police station. The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, took the matter seriously and set up an investigative committee. The DPO was suspended from his duties pending the investigation's outcome.
The incident began when the girl went missing and was found and taken to the Dutsinma Police Station. Due to the late hour, she was left at the station to spend the night. However, the DPO instructed the girl’s relatives to leave, assuring them he would take her home the next morning. Upon their return, the girl was not at the station, and officers on duty claimed she had not spent the night there. Eventually, the girl was found and returned to the station, but in different clothes.
The girl confirmed she had spent the night at the DPO's house and that he had instructed her to go there. The HRTI recorded her testimony and submitted a formal complaint to the police, urging them to take action. The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the complaint and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
