2027 ELECTION ALIGNMENTS: Nigerian Youths Gearing Up to Repeat The Same Mistakes Of Previous Election Cycles
By Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba
From El-Rufai's outbursts to the wind of defections by political actors across the Nation, the 2027 election is gradually taking shape, and as usual, the youths are conspicuously absent in the scheme of things.
This is in line with the now established behavioral pattern of young people who claim they want to lead Nigeria.
They feign ignorance, cheer on and laugh off political alignments that shape the outcomes of elections. They dismiss such as political drama. Then sit back and wait for few months before the election to start claiming that they want to contest for positions.
The Not too young to run act has permitted young people above the age of 25 to contest important positions like House of Assembly, House Representatives and LGA Chairmanship, while those above 30 can gun for Gubernatorial and Senatorial Positions, reserving the Presidency for those above 35.
However, the Not Too Young To Run Act WILL NOT prepare young people for elections. It will not form alliances for them. It will build up structures for them, it will not shape narratives for them and it definitely will not vote for them.
Therefore, to sit back at this point when narratives that will drive campaigns are being woven, when alliances that would produce candidates are being formed and when grassroots supports are being consolidated, is to strategically count yourself out of the process.
What this does to us is that we wake up to an election year in which the narratives are already woven, and we are left with no choice that to choose which narrative to follow and play second fiddle to those who weaved it. For you can never outdo people in a game they designed.
This is the moment that we must jettison all lookwarmness and actively plan on formulating Agendas, propagandas, narratives and strategies that would ensure that we not only control the narratives but also win the actual election at the polls.
2027 is closer than we think and by this time next year, everything would have been set for primaries.
If we do not start now, we will only start making noise when we are sidelined once again after the primaries.
