Attempt to Remove Me as PDP Secretary an Invitation to Chaos – Anyanwu
There is growing tension within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the embattled National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has vowed to resist any attempt to remove him from office. Anyanwu's declaration follows escalating confrontations within the party, particularly over a recent court decision.
On January 29, 2025, violence erupted when both Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, each claiming the position of PDP National Secretary, attempted to attend a Board of Trustees meeting. The situation escalated until security forces intervened.
The dispute intensified on Friday when PDP governors publicly supported Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary, citing a High Court of Appeal ruling from December 2024. This decision, however, has been contested by Anyanwu, who argues that the matter is still under appeal and has not yet been resolved by the Supreme Court.
In response, Anyanwu sent a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, warning that any attempt to implement the governors' decision would lead to chaos and undermine the judiciary. He stressed that as the duly elected National Secretary, he would not relinquish his position unless a court rules otherwise. He also pointed out that a January 2025 ruling by the Court of Appeal had directed both parties to maintain the status quo until further hearings.
Anyanwu has accused the PDP governors of being misled by Ude-Okoye's supporters, who are allegedly under criminal investigation for submitting forged party guidelines to the court.
As tensions continue to rise within the PDP, Anyanwu has called for restraint and adherence to the rule of law to prevent further conflict and ensure peace within the party.
