BREAKING: Osun PDP Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Kill Governor Adeleke

...Accuses IGP of taking Sides

The Osun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Bisi Sunday, has accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, of partiality in the ongoing political crisis in the state. He alleged a sinister plot to unlawfully arrest and eliminate members of the ruling party, including Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Addressing a world press conference at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo, Hon. Sunday claimed that the recent deployment of armed policemen to Osun was a calculated attempt to instigate violence and provide cover for attacks against PDP members.

According to Sunday, Osun has been thrown into chaos due to the alleged collaboration between the IGP and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). He claimed that:

  • The IGP is aiding APC members in their bid to reclaim local government positions despite a court ruling that nullified their election.
  • At least 10 PDP members have been killed in the past 48 hours due to political violence.
  • There are plans to assassinate Governor Adeleke, using the crisis as a cover-up.

Sunday further stated that the governor had engaged with IGP Egbetokun to restore peace but was ignored.

The PDP chairman questioned why the IGP bypassed Governor Adeleke in his security actions regarding the disputed local government administration. He argued that:

  • The IGP's refusal to follow due process indicates a hidden political agenda.
  • His intervention in local government matters is suspicious and undermines the authority of the elected governor.
  • The security crisis appears to be a strategy to disrupt the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Hon. Sunday vowed that Osun State would not be intimidated by APC and the security agencies. He commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for upholding constitutional provisions in its election preparations.

Referring to a Federal High Court judgment from November 30, 2022, he reaffirmed that only 30 local government areas exist legally in Osun, dismissing the APC’s claim to 69 councils based on an invalidated election conducted on October 15, 2022.

Sunday urged Osun voters to remain resolute, warning that any harm to Governor Adeleke would be met with severe consequences.
