Jubilation As Five Notorious Bandit Leaders Surrender to Katsina Government, Demand Reintegration Support
Five notorious bandit leaders operating in Katsina State have reportedly surrendered to the government after years of terrorizing local communities. The bandits, identified as Abu Radda, Umar Black, Abdullahi Lankai, Jijjige, and Dabar Musa Dan Gandu, handed over their weapons and released several hostages as part of their surrender.
Their decision to seek peace comes after sustained military operations against them, particularly in the Batsari, Safana, and Jibia Local Government Areas of Katsina State. The armed groups, reportedly exhausted by military pressure, have voluntarily disarmed and expressed a desire for reintegration into society.
The bandit leaders have requested assistance in transitioning back into peaceful life, including the construction of markets, hospitals, and access to clean water to support their reintegration into their communities. Their appeal for alternative livelihoods was made through the National Community for Security and Societal Advancement in Katsina State (NCSOSACK), led by Comrade Hamisa S. Batsari.
While military sources welcomed the bandits' surrender, they emphasized that operations would continue against those who remain committed to criminal activities. Authorities aim to restore lasting peace across the North West, including Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto States.
The government's handling of this surrender could pave the way for similar efforts in other affected regions.
