JUST IN: 3 Governor’s Aides, Others Arrested Over Alleged N105million Fraud
The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) arrested Mustapha Maifada, the Senior Special Assistant to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, along with three other officials from Nassarawa Local Government Area over the alleged diversion of N105million.
The arrested officials include the council’s Director of Personnel Management, Treasurer, and Cashier.
PCACC Chairman Muhuyi Rimin-Gado confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, stating, “Yes, the officials have been arrested and they are with us.”
According to sources, the misappropriation allegedly started when local government officials were instructed to issue a payment of N105,000 for a programme. However, instead of following the directive, the officials reportedly issued a cheque of N105million to Maifada in November 2024.
The anti-graft agency launched an investigation after receiving intelligence from a financial monitoring system. During interrogation, the detained officials claimed the payment was a mistake, but investigators are unconvinced due to the time lapse and other evidence.
Further findings suggest that Maifada allegedly used the diverted funds to acquire properties.
Investigations are ongoing, and the PCACC has vowed to uncover the full extent of the fraud.
