LATEST UPDATE! Governor’s Advisor Council Holds Emergency Meeting Over Obasa’s Removal As Lagos Assembly Speaker

The Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) is convening an emergency meeting today at Lagos House, Marina, to address the escalating crisis in the state House of Assembly. This follows the controversial removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, which has sparked significant tensions within the APC structure.

The GAC, the highest decision-making body of the Lagos APC, is led by Pa Tajudeen Olusi, with President Bola Tinubu serving as a lifetime patron. The meeting comes two weeks after a similar gathering, as the leadership conflict continues to divide the party. Obasa was removed by 32 out of the 40 Assembly members on January 13, 2025, amid allegations of financial mismanagement and misconduct. His replacement, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has further intensified the rift within the GAC.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is also expected to address the Assembly crisis in today's Executive Council meeting, signaling an ongoing effort to resolve the tensions. However, members of the GAC have expressed differing views on the legality of Obasa’s removal, with some calling for a more unified approach. Despite the divisions, GAC Secretary Mutiu Are reassured that the crisis would be resolved internally, describing it as a "family affair."
