Police Arrest Gang Specializing in Stealing from Bank Customers’ Cars
Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested several members of a four-man gang that targets bank customers, stealing from their vehicles. The suspects, identified as Mustapha Bukar (42), Mustapha Abubakar (47), and Habibu Tijjani (30), were apprehended after a tip-off led police to investigate the syndicate, which operates in Bauchi, Borno, and Kano states.
The gang uses locally fabricated master keys, known as "Chori," to access their victims' cars, particularly those who have withdrawn significant amounts of money from banks. On January 28, 2025, the police intercepted the gang after they followed a businessman from an FCMB bank in Bauchi. The victim, realizing he was being trailed, contacted his family and reported the suspicious activity, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Recovered items include three master keys and two Toyota Honda vehicles. The gang leader remains at large. Police Commissioner Auwal Muhammad urged the public to stay vigilant when leaving banks, avoid parking in isolated areas, and report any suspicious activity.
