Varsity VC Commends President Tinubu as 262 Students Receives Educational Bursary, Scholarships

 

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar,  Prof. Florence Banku Obi has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for given educational bursary and scholarships to 262 students. 


Prof. Obi gave the commendation during the presentation of scholarship award letters to the beneficiaries from the University of Calabar and University of Cross River State(UNICROSS) yesterday at the University of Calabar's Senate Chamber. 


According to Prof. Obi, 241 students from UNICAL and 21 students from UNICROSS benefitted from the Federal Government Scholarship through the Ministry of Education. 


Lauding the President's initiative, the VC stated that it has encouraged many students to pursue their academic disciplines and ensured that no Nigerian student is denied access to higher education. 


"I want to commend President Tinubu for sustaining this opportunity to ensuring that no student is denied opportunity to higher education especially the educational bursary.


"We were gathered here on Friday last week to recognize our best scholars who are topping their various departments in the  University. 68 of them bagged the University's Vice Chancellor's Award for the 2023/2024 academic session and today, we’re here to present this to, and on behalf of the President.


"The University is a place for academic excellence and when you come here, we expects you to make yourself proud and then your parents. We are doing this to encourage a healthy competition amongst our students". 


"Today, we are celebrating another set of students who took the pains to undergo the rigorous procedures for the application. We are encouraged by the number, having 241 students from UNICAL and 21 students from UNICROSS. This is highly laudable and we encourage other students to also seize the opportunity next year". She added.


The awards which are of two categories has the Educational Bursary and Scholarships which the former aimed at encouraging more people to study educational courses with Federal Government annual support ranging from N250, N300 and N500 thousand Naira for undergraduates and postgraduate students respectively, while the later is available for all students in the country.
