JUST IN: Wike Arrives Italy on Medical Tourism, Official Engagements
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has arrived in Milan, Italy, for medical tourism and a series of official meetings, including discussions with the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana.
The Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed in a statement from Milan on Wednesday that Wike departed Abuja on Tuesday night and landed in Milan at approximately 4:30 a.m. today. He was received by the Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Italy, Ambassador Mustapha Mohammed.
While in Milan, the FCT Minister is expected to undergo medical consultations while also engaging in high-level discussions. On Thursday, he is scheduled to meet with President Attilio Fontana and hold talks with agribusiness investors.
Lombardy is recognised as Italy’s foremost region in terms of economic significance, boasting a population of around 10 million people. It is the second most populous region in the European Union (EU) and ranks second in the EU by nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“The FCT Minister’s meeting with Attilio Fontana will focus on exploring partnerships and assessing potential collaboration in the fields of Agriculture and Vocational Education, as well as identifying strategic development partners within the Lombardy Region.
“Following this, Wike will meet with agribusiness investors and vocational training experts to unlock new opportunities,” the statement added.
Accompanying the Minister on this trip are the FCT Mandate Secretaries for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, and for Agriculture and Rural Development, Lawan Geidam, along with the Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Dr. Udo Samuel Atang, and the Senior Special Assistant on Legal and Multi-Lateral Cooperation, Barrister Benedict Daudu.
