A grassroots mobiliser, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah (Dike Eji Eje Mba) has extended warm congratulations to Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya on his historic appointment as the 16th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). In a statement charged with political insight and regional reflection, Hon. Mbah described the development as a monumental breakthrough for the Nsukka cultural bloc, and a bold reward for academic merit and community pride.

Prof. Ortuanya, who hails from Ohodo in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, becomes the first indigene of Nsukka Zone to ascend to the Vice Chancellorship of UNN since its establishment 65 years ago, an achievement Hon. Mbah called “long overdue but worth the wait.”

While congratulating Prof. Ortuanya on his well-earned position, Hon. Mbah also used the opportunity to celebrate the people of Nsukka (Enugu North Senatorial Zone), for whom this victory marks a symbolic homecoming of dignity, capacity, and institutional leadership. He noted that the appointment represents a long-awaited political and academic recognition for the zone, which has hosted UNN for decades without leading it.

Hon. Mbah reserved special gratitude for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who, according to him, played a pivotal role in facilitating the emergence of Prof. Ortuanya. He praised the governor for his unifying spirit and leadership maturity, noting that despite the fact that Nsukka Zone did not offer full electoral support in 2023, the governor has continued to lavish the zone with development projects and high-level appointments.

“As a political actor,” Hon Chinedu Mbah said, “I am deeply moved by Governor Peter Mbah’s ability to govern beyond electoral bitterness. He has proven that leadership is about vision, not vengeance; inclusion, not isolation. And it is time the people of Nsukka Zone recognized this rare form of leadership and responded accordingly.”

He pointed to the dualisation of the Opi–Nsukka Road, a landmark project currently ongoing under Governor Mbah’s administration, which serves as a vital economic and social artery for the entire Enugu North zone. “This is the first time this strategic gateway is receiving such attention,” Hon. Mbah noted. “It opens up the region for commerce, tourism, and industrialisation.”

Hon. Mbah also highlighted the construction of green smart schools in all political wards across the state, an education revolution that places cutting-edge digital learning tools in rural communities. With 103 political wards in Nsukka Zone, he emphasized that the region stands as the highest beneficiary of this world-class education initiative.

He further drew attention to the ongoing establishment of Type-C primary health centres in every ward, aimed at decentralizing access to quality healthcare. “In an era where primary healthcare is a challenge nationwide,” he said, “Governor Mbah is positioning Enugu State, and particularly Nsukka Zone, as a model for community health delivery.”

In the area of infrastructure, Hon. Mbah reminded the public of the governor’s commitment to constructing 10 kilometres of roads in each of the 260 political wards in the state. With Nsukka Zone holding the largest number of wards (103), he noted that the zone will receive over 1,000 kilometres of new rural and township roads under this singular policy.

The governor’s aide also praised the ongoing establishment of farm settlements and agri-clusters in each political ward, describing it as a game-changer for rural employment, food security, and youth empowerment. “This is how you create prosperity from the grassroots,” he stated. “Nsukka Zone, with its vast arable lands and youthful population, stands to gain the most.”

Hon. Mbah further commended the construction of a state-of-the-art bus terminal in Nsukka, describing it as a long-overdue infrastructure that modernizes the region’s transport system and positions Nsukka as a regional hub. “For a town hosting one of Africa’s most renowned universities, this terminal brings dignity to the travelling public and boosts local commerce,” he said.

He urged leaders, traditional institutions, youth groups, and all residents of Nsukka Zone to see these developmental milestones as a wake-up call and a reason to close ranks in support of Governor Mbah’s visionary administration. “The time to reciprocate love with loyalty is now. Let us not wait till 2027 before we begin to build the political consciousness required to return this governor with one voice.”

“With what Governor Mbah has done for Nsukka Zone within two years,” Hon. Mbah concluded, “it would be morally wrong and politically unwise not to return his kindness with an overwhelming mandate in 2027. Prof. Ortuanya’s appointment is a seal on the governor’s goodwill, and we must respond with unity, gratitude, and strategic political solidarity.”

As Enugu advances towards the second half of Governor Mbah’s first term, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah’s statement stands as both a congratulatory note and a political call to action, a reminder that loyalty to good governance is the price of sustained progress.
