Ezeagu Council Chairman Hailed for Exceptional Commitment to NYSC Corps Members’ Welfare, Security, and Development

....Honoured With Most Corps Member-Friendly LG Chairman Award in Enugu

The Executive Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area, Dr. Vita Ndu, has emerged winner of the Most Corps Member-Friendly Local Government Chairman Award in Enugu State for the year 2025. The prestigious honour, conferred by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was presented to him by the Enugu State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awulola, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the NYSC State Secretariat in Enugu.

The award recognized Dr. Ndu’s outstanding interventions and consistent support for corps members posted to Ezeagu LGA, covering welfare, security, emergency assistance, medical support, accommodation renovations, community development engagements, and farewell recognitions.

Speaking during the presentation, Mrs. Awulola described Dr. Ndu as “a shining example of what a local government should represent in corps welfare.” She emphasized that while corps members in some parts of the country often face neglect, the Ezeagu Council Chairman has redefined leadership by going beyond the call of duty to make their service year rewarding and impactful.

The honour drew commendations from eminent personalities. The Chairman of the Ezeagu Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Igwe Emma Anichebe, lauded the award as well deserved, describing Dr. Ndu as “a role model whose footprints are everywhere in Ezeagu, with a performance that is highly unprecedented.”

Similarly, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Ubaka Ogbogu, Dean of Aguobu Owa Deanery, Catholic Diocese of Enugu, hailed the recognition as a celebration of value, noting that Dr. Ndu embodies what the NYSC stands for. “The NYSC remains a bond holding this nation together, and other local governments should emulate Ezeagu’s model of leadership,” he said.

Adding his voice, Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze, Member representing Ezeagu Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, congratulated the Chairman, describing the honour as “well-deserved and symbolic because of the positive change the Chairman represents.”

The NYSC Assistant Director of Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mr. Tony Ibekwe, applauded Dr. Ndu’s calm, calculative, and people-focused leadership style, which, he said, has bridged the gap between corps members and local governance. Likewise, Mr. Nansel Lamba, Corps Liaison Officer (CLO) of Ezeagu LGA, described the Chairman as “a father to corps members,” while the Local Government Inspector, Dr. Jeff Ejiofor Okoro, highlighted his achievements in a detailed citation.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Vita Ndu dedicated the award to teamwork and collaboration. He expressed gratitude to NYSC Enugu State and extended appreciation to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Enugu State Police Command led by CP Giwa Bitrus, and divisional police formations in Ezeagu for their contributions to corps members’ security. “This award is a motivation to do more. It is a reward for a job well done, but also a call to greater service,” he said, urging corps members to cultivate good habits as a foundation for shaping their destinies.

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Dr. Igboeme Sabastine, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to corps members’ empowerment through skills acquisition and tech incubation programs.

The event attracted a distinguished audience, including representatives of the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, ACP Abubakar Yunusa, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Innocent Okozor, council supervisors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, NYSC officials, and corps members.

This award, coming shortly after Dr. Ndu received the Good Governance Award from the Association of Management and Social Science Researchers of Nigeria earlier this month, is seen as further testimony that his leadership has captured both national and international recognition.
