FAKE NEWS ALERT: UNN Officially Cleared Chief Uche Nnaji of Allegations Bothering on Certificate Forgery Denounces Circulating Fake News
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has officially cleared the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, of allegations bordering on certificate forgery.
According to a letter from the Office of the Registrar of UNN, dated December 21, 2023, the university confirmed that Chief Uche Nnaji was duly admitted in 1981 and graduated in 1985. The letter was issued in response to inquiries made by People Gazette regarding his academic records.
Despite this official clarification, Premium Times reporter Mr. Chinagorom Ugwu was accused of publishing a story without proper verification, an act described by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth and Student Wing as “a glaring failure of journalistic responsibility.”
The statement further expressed concern over the alleged conduct of the Vice-Chancellor of UNN, Prof. Ortuanya, who was accused of allowing himself to be used as a political tool by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, thereby dragging the name of the prestigious university into political controversy.
The APC Youth and Student Wing maintained that the university must uphold its integrity by publishing a reconciliatory statement to clarify any contradictory claims. “UNN’s credibility is on trial, not Chief Uche Nnaji’s degree,” the group asserted, urging the public to disregard politically motivated misinformation.
They emphasized that Chief Nnaji remains focused on delivering the dividends of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and will not be distracted by what they described as desperate attempts to derail his progress in Enugu State.
“Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have responded to these fake news publications,” the statement added, “but we decided to respect the emotions of our party faithful and the people of Enugu State who might be misled by such misinformation. Official records don’t lie—politics does.”
The APC youth group called on journalists and political actors to uphold integrity and professionalism, warning against the spread of unverified information that could tarnish reputations or institutions.
