UNN Management Finally Concedes to Students’ Demand on Sundry Fees Results
The Management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has approved a revised sundry fee structure for the 2025/2026 academic session, reducing the initially proposed 100 percent increment to 60 percent after extensive consultations with the Student Union Government (SUG) of the Nsukka and Enugu campuses.
The decision, which represents a 40 percent downward review of the earlier proposal, followed weeks of sustained dialogue between the university authorities and student representatives. The engagements were concluded at a meeting held on Friday, where both sides explored practical options that would address institutional needs while safeguarding the welfare of students.
The development was officially communicated in a press release issued by the university on Friday, January 16, 2026, and signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Agha Egwu, ANIPR, on behalf of the management and the Governing Council. According to the statement, a comprehensive breakdown of the revised sundry charges by faculty and level will be released in due course.
As part of the agreement reached, students will pay the approved sundry fees in two instalments, a measure designed to ease financial pressure on students and their families. In addition, the university management confirmed that there will be no increment in hostel accommodation fees for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Reacting to the outcome, the SUG leadership commended the management for its understanding and responsiveness, while calling on students across both campuses to remain calm, law-abiding, and to comply with the agreed terms. The student leaders also discouraged any actions capable of disrupting peace and academic activities within the university community.
The university management reaffirmed its commitment to continuous dialogue, student welfare, and the overall development of the institution, stressing that constructive engagement remains its preferred approach to resolving issues.
