DHQ Gives Senior Military Officers Deadline To Retire

The Defence Headquarters has ordered senior military officers with seniority on commission above that of the current service chiefs to retire latest by July 3, 2023. This is following reports that some senior officers who are not comfortable with the appointment of Service Chiefs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are refusing to retire to give room for command and control. President Tinubu had on 19 June, 2023 retired service chiefs who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari and replaced them with new ones. A letter spotted by LEADERSHIP but not confirmed asked the senior military officers to put in papers for retirement latest July 3, 2023. The letter dated 26 June 2023 signed by Major General Y. Yahaya onbehalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj Gen Christopher Musa read “It would be recalled that the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently appointed new CDS and Service Chiefs on 19 June 23.

Policemen who Ran Over Man With Vehicle Moved to Abuja

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (NPF), Olukayode Egbetokun, has condemned the action of some police officers caught on camera while crushing a man with their patrol vehicle in Ekpoma, Edo Stateon Friday, June 30, that in the now viral video, a man was seen lying on the ground in handcuffs while a Sienna bus, occupied by police officers, intentionally ran over him.It was gathered that the man was handcuffed by police officers attached to the Ekpoma division after he refused to allow them access to his mobile phones. The officers’ attempt to take the man to the police station was resisted by onlookers, resulting in a confrontation between the two groups .Amidst the chaotic scene, the police officers entered their vehicle and ran over the handcuffed man, who was left writhing on the ground.The incident angered Nigerians on Twitter, a popular micro blogging site, with many demanding the officers’ immediate arrest and prosecution. NAFDAC Warns Nigerians of Contaminated 50cl Glass Bottle Sprite In Circulation

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has alerted Nigerians to a batch of unwholesome Sprite 50cl glass bottles circulating in Nigeria. NAFDAC said the product was discovered following a consumer complaint received and investigated by the post-marketing surveillance unit of the agency. SUBSIDY: Nigeria Poverty Rate to Rise Above 100 Million Without Subsidy-Palliatives, World Bank Warns

The World Bank has stated that Nigeria has one of the highest inflation rates, which pushed an estimated four million people into poverty between January and May 2023. This was disclosed during the launch of the June 2023 edition of the Nigeria Development Update on Tuesday in Abuja. The Washington-based lender also said about 7.1 million poor Nigerians would become poor if the Federal Government failed to compensate or provide palliatives for them, following the removal of fuel subsidy. According to World Bank data, 89.8 million Nigerian were poor as of the beginning of this year. The lender noted that additional four million Nigerians became poor between January and May this year, raising the figure to 93.8million. Latest projection means the number of poor Nigerians will rise to 100.9 million if the government fails to compensate vulnerable citizens for fuel subsidy removal. Nigeria's $500m Loan Request Approved by the World Bank

World Bank has approved the sum of $500m Federal Government loan request to help Nigeria drive women’s empowerment. In a statement released, the World bank stated that it gave approval for the loan to scale up financing for Nigeria Women Programme, which was initially approved on June 27, 2018, with $100m financing. “The World Bank has approved $500m for Nigeria for Women Program Scale Up (NFWP-SU). The scale-up financing will further support the government of Nigeria to invest in improving the livelihoods of women in Nigeria. The NFWP-SU will help to ensure better economic opportunities for women, which is essential for addressing gender inequality; guaranteeing better education, health, and nutrition outcomes for families; and building women’s and communities’ resilience to climate change. ”This will be the second loan being approved by the World bank in the Tinubu administration

Gunmen operating at Imo axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway reportedly kidnapped nine Enugu-bound passengers, killed two and robbed others of their valuables. The victims, who hail from Amangwo Olokoro in Umuahia, were said to be travelling to Enugu on Saturday for a burial, when they were attacked by the unidentified hoodlums.   A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ordered Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to stop demolishing structures and property in the State. The State Government, upon assumption of duty on May 29, embarked on massive demolition of buildings approved by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, branding them as illegal structures The court granted a Motion Ex-Parte, filled by Saminu Muhammad, which prayed the court to restrain the Kano State Government and its agents from demolishing some buildings located along BUK road.
