The Federal Government has announced Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria's 64th Independence Day. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.

In a statement released on Saturday, Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Nigerians, both home and abroad, on this significant occasion. He expressed appreciation for the resilience and hard work of Nigerian men and women, emphasizing that their contributions toward nation-building would not go unnoticed.

Reflecting on the significance of Independence Day, the Minister called on Nigerians to remember the sacrifices made by the country's forebears, stating, “We must draw inspiration from the labour of our heroes past as we face the challenges ahead. A united and determined effort is key to building the Nigeria of our dreams.”

As Nigeria marks 64 years of independence from British colonial rule, Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to remain steadfast and committed to the nation's growth. He stressed the importance of unity and collective efforts in achieving the brighter future that Nigerians aspire to.

The celebration is expected to be filled with patriotic events across the country, as citizens reflect on the journey so far and the road ahead.
