BREAKING: Enugu Commissioner Appointed City Boy Movement Women Leader
Enugu Commissioner IV, Local Government Service Commission, Amb Mrs Amaka Nweke JP, has been appointment the State Women Leader of the City Boy Movement in Enugu State. The appointment, effective February 24, 2026, was confirmed in a letter dated March 2, 2026, from the Office of the National Women Leader, signed by Shoga Francis Oluwatosin, Director General of the Movement.
Mrs. Nweke will coordinate women’s structures across state, local government, and ward levels, mobilize women for civic and political engagement, mentor emerging female leaders, implement national directives, and oversee advocacy initiatives. She is also tasked with maintaining membership records, submitting monthly reports, and upholding the Movement’s values and code of conduct. Ambassador Nweke will work with her deputy, Engr. Onyinye Akubuilo-Okpalanma who currently serves as SSA to the Governor of Enugu State on SDGs & State Coordinator of AUDA-NEPAD
Following her appointment, Amb. Mrs. Amaka Judith Nweke expressed heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of the City Boy Movement, beginning with the Director-General, Shoga Francis Oluwatosin, for his guidance and support. She also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and His Excellency, Seyi Tinubu and National Women Leader of City Boy Movement, Haj. Ummusalma Isyaka Rabiu, for their visionary leadership and for creating a platform that empowers young people and women to thrive.
Mrs. Nweke expressed her gratitude and appre to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State for supporting and giving her a platform to serve Enugu State and Nigeria, and to a woman who has greatly inspired her, Hon. Ginika Tor, the Enugu State representative at the Federal Character Commission, for her encouragement and guidance. She described the appointment as a humbling recognition of her dedication to women’s mobilization and community leadership. She pledged to dedicate herself fully to the growth and success of the City Boy Movement’s Women Wing in Enugu State. She affirmed her commitment to empowering women, fostering civic participation, and working towards a victorious 2027 for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while upholding the values, discipline, and mission of the Movement.
Ambassador Nweke is currently serving as a Member IV of the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, where she also chairs the WASH Committee. She has been widely recognized for her work in water governance, environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment across Enugu State.
Over the years, she has led community sanitation and clean-up initiatives, including interventions in waste-affected areas of Obeagu community aimed at safeguarding public health and protecting environmental rights. She has also trained thousands of women in the state’s water sector, equipping them with entrepreneurial skills to enhance economic independence.
Her leadership extends to policy advocacy, where she has supported water rights and disability-inclusive initiatives designed to strengthen access, accountability and community participation in water governance.
Amb Mrs Amaka Nweke JP was recently honoured with the title of Ada-Ugwu (Daughter of Pride) by the Obosi Development Union Women Wing, Enugu State Chapter, few days ago, in recognition of her commitment to humanitarian values and selfless contributions to society. Under the visionary leadership of the group’s global President, Prof. Lady Felicia Obioma Ononye (Ochiora Global).
The latest honour adds to her growing list of recognitions, including her global achievement at the XIX World Water Congress held in Marrakech, Morocco. At the congress, Ambassador Nweke won the Overall Best Scientific Oral Presentation Award for her session titled “Water and Nature: Innovative Solutions for a City in Nature, Using Enugu’s Coal City to Water City as a Case Study.”
Ambassador Nweke’s professional footprint spans local, national, and international spheres. As a member of the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, she plays a vital role in shaping policies and practices that strengthen governance and service delivery. Beyond her government role, she is a Board member of the Network of Water Rights Initiative, where she led groundbreaking campaigns for water rights and sustainable resource management.
Her achievements include leading the internationally recognized “Claim Your Water Rights” campaign in partnership with End Water Poverty UK, which has improved public awareness and access to clean water. Through her advocacy, she played a pivotal role in the passage of a landmark Water Law in Enugu State, safeguarding the state’s water resources for future generations. She also led a transformative effort to evacuate a decade-old dumpsite that posed serious health hazards to a primary health center in Obeagu Community, promoting sustainable waste management.
Her impact extends beyond water rights to gender-based violence prevention, anti-corruption campaigns, and youth mentorship. Through her “Save the Young Against Corruption Campaign,” she mentors young people on ethical leadership while assisting victims of abuse in their pursuit of justice.
Ambassador Nweke’s work has taken her to global platforms across Ethiopia, Senegal, Russia, Rwanda, and Indonesia, Netherlands, Morocco and many other controes where she has represented Nigeria and shared her expertise on water rights, gender advocacy, and social justice. Her international engagements have earned her prestigious accolades, including the Water Warrior Award by Water Witness for her fight against water scarcity, the Blue Community Endorsement by the Council of Canadians for promoting water conservation, and numerous humanitarian and leadership awards for her outstanding service to society.
A passionate educator and mentor, Ambassador Nweke has empowered countless women, girls, and youths through skill acquisition programs, literacy campaigns, and educational initiatives. Her leadership style, characterized by inclusivity, integrity, and empathy, continues to inspire the next generation of leaders. She is the founder of WOSCONET, the Anambra Women General Assembly (AWGA), Kpakpando Support Group For Peter Mbah and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Amaka Nweke Foundation, platforms through which she drives gender equality, social justice, and community development. Her numerous leadership roles including service on critical panels and committees at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu reflect her commitment to ethical governance and institutional reform.
