The Enugu State Police Command has announced that its Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) has completed an investigation into the tragic and unwarranted shooting of the Enugu-based Ogene musician, Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, popularly known as "Igbo-Jah."
While the investigation team has yet to disclose specific findings on what led to the musician’s shooting inside a police station, the Command has ordered the immediate redeployment of SP Ekeleme Chidobe, the Officer in Charge of the Tactical Squad.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, it was confirmed that the implicated Police Inspector, Ozonwanji Joseph, is now undergoing an orderly room trial. DSP Ndukwe explained that this trial would facilitate further disciplinary actions in accordance with the Nigeria Police Force's procedures.
According to DSP Ndukwe, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Officer in Charge of the Tactical Squad, SP Ekeleme Chidobe, to allow for a comprehensive review of the Squad’s operations. CP Uzuegbu urged citizens to keep faith in the police’s efforts to bring the case to a fair and justifiable conclusion, appealing for continued support as the Command seeks justice for the slain musician and reaffirms its commitment to professional integrity across its ranks.
