BREAKING: Reps Member Intervenes, Provides Accommodation for the Family of 12-year-old Child Assaulted by Stepmother

 

In a heartfelt demonstration of empathy and action, Hon. Chike Okafor, representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the Nigerian House of Representatives, has secured new and safe housing for 12-year-old Amarachi Emmanuel, a victim of severe abuse by her stepmother. Amarachi, currently being treated for her injuries at Imo State General Hospital, Owerri, was reportedly assaulted by Mrs. Blessing Emmanuel, her stepmother, over a minor incident involving food.

After hearing about Amarachi’s ordeal, Hon. Okafor visited her at the hospital, pledging to relocate her and her siblings to a secure and dignified home. This commitment came on the heels of a call to action from renowned journalist and human rights activist, Chidiebube Okeoma, who had earlier documented Amarachi’s harrowing story. Okeoma emphasized the importance of providing a safe and stable environment for the young girl, whose recovery and well-being have become a priority for concerned citizens.


Following his hospital visit, Hon. Okafor worked promptly to secure a new residence for Amarachi’s family in Nekede. This timely response was lauded by Okeoma, who later confirmed, “Hon. Chike Okafor has fulfilled his promise. I now have access to the house, which is a flat, and it provides a safe haven for Amarachi and her siblings. To God be the glory.”


While the accommodation has been provided, the family remains in need of essential household items. Okeoma has taken the lead in rallying public support to furnish the new apartment, appealing to well-meaning Nigerians for contributions such as cooking utensils, beds, and other home necessities. “Amarachi is still at the hospital, but once the home is ready, she can transition to a healing environment. Any contribution, even gently used items, would be immensely helpful,” he urged.


This heartening intervention by Hon. Okafor and the solidarity shown by the community underscore the power of collective action in bringing hope and relief to those in need. Amarachi’s story has become a symbol of resilience, compassion, and the unwavering commitment of citizens and leaders to protecting vulnerable children from abuse.
